ISBE Preschool For All (PFA)


What is Preschool for All?


Preschool for All is a free early childhood education program funded by the Illinois State Board of Education. It is designed for children ages 3 to 5, especially those who may need extra support to be ready for kindergarten.

This program gives young children a strong start by offering high-quality, age-appropriate education that helps them grow, learn, and thrive.


Who is it For?


  • Children ages 3 to 5 years old

  • Priority is often given to:

    • Families with low income

    • Children with developmental delays or disabilities

    • Children who speak a language other than English at home

    • Children who have experienced trauma or other challenges

Note: Some programs may serve all children in the community, but those with greater needs may be enrolled first.


Why is Preschool for All Important?


The years before kindergarten are some of the most important for your child’s brain and social development. This program helps children build the skills they need to succeed in school and life.


What Does the Program Offer?

  •  Learning Through Play Children learn by doing! Activities include reading, storytelling, art, music, movement, and more—all designed to help with early math, language, and social skills.

  •  Qualified Teachers Classes are led by certified early childhood educators trained to support young children’s learning and development.

  •  Social-Emotional Growth Children learn how to share, make friends, solve problems, and manage emotions.

  • ‍ Family Involvement Families are encouraged to be involved in their child's learning through classroom visits, parent-teacher conferences, and take-home resources.

  •  Support for English Learners Bilingual teachers and assistants help children whose first language isn’t English, ensuring they feel included and supported.

  • Free Diapers and Wipes during child care hours


Where is Preschool for All Offered?

  • Preschool for All is offered in some of SCC's preschool classrooms

    • 8260 Elmwood 

    • 8064 Lincoln 


How Much Does it Cost?

 FREE! Preschool for All is funded by the state, so there is no cost to families for participating.


How Do I Enroll My Child?

  1. Fill out an application and complete a screening to see if your child qualifies.

  2. If your child qualifies, they will be offered a placement in an available classroom at SCC
